Diana - Blocking Progress

Hello!

This is my first pass in blocking for the reaction/listening shot. Moving forward, I'll be adding more breakdowns.

Small note: There is a snap on the coffee mug since I'm keying the visibility of 2 mugs to avoid constraints - that will be fixed as well as the way he places the mug down. (that area could use more love)

Here's my reference from last class for a little reminder:

What do you all think? I'm at a good place for feedback so don't hold back :)

  1. Hey Diana,

I like your starting pose, where he's making eye contact while drinking coffee. Also, I'm really digging his hand/face gesture from f61-f94! I think that feels unique and organic.

The thing that stands out to me is that it feels like he's really gripping his chair tight with his sR hand. For being aloof/uninvested in the conversation, I would think his hand would be more relaxed (like the rest of his body feels). Maybe you could try having his hand just loosely hang from the armrest, then grip tight when she says "I love you"?

    Hope this helps :)

  2. This is really helpful! I see what you mean about the sR hand being too tense in the beginning now that you mention it. I'll address that for sure. Thanks a bunch!!

  3. Hi Diana, looking good. I like the simplicity of the ending. I agree with Ryan about the SR hand feeling tense. Maybe you could just rotate it around so the fingers are curling over the chair to screen left? As for the first pose, I'm not convinced about the eye/cup direction. I kinda like what you have in the reference better, where the eyes are unfocused and looking towards the cup. You could also try playing his eye direction off to screen left, as if he was looking at someone else before re-engaging with the girl. Keep going!

  4. Cool! I see what you mean about the eye direction. I like the idea of him looking sL, I'll definitely try that out and also make fixes to his hand. Thanks for the notes!
